DCS Requirements¶
The baseline DCS readiness standard for players joining UOAF community events.
You should also be familiar with General SOPs.
Broad Strokes¶
- Can you take off, fly, pickle the chosen ordnance, and land afterward?
- Can you talk to the group while doing it?
- Can you follow directions and generally act like a mature human being?
- Can you keep your lead in sight?
- If yes, you are probably close to ready. Read the rest for the specific standard.
General¶
- Basic English-language skill sufficient to understand commands and call threats, status, and location.
- Working speakers or headphones and a microphone.
- Read assigned briefing materials before the event.
- Be familiar with the DCS server browser and how to join a multiplayer server. UOAF server information is posted in Discord during the event.
- Have a steady internet connection suitable for online play.
Software¶
- Latest version of DCS Open Beta installed.
- Latest version of SRS installed, or a version confirmed compatible with the event, and verified before the event with working two-way comms and keybinds.
- Discord installed, membership in the UOAF Discord, and working voice communication.
Pilot Skills¶
Basic competency with the airframe chosen on the signup sheet. At a minimum, you should be able to:
- Start the aircraft if the mission uses cold starts. Auto-start is acceptable.
- Taxi and take off.
- Navigate to and from assigned targets.
- Perform a visual landing.
- Maintain loose formation and keep your flight or element lead in visual range. See Formation Flying.
- Follow flight or element lead instructions.
- Employ the weapons assigned to your flight.
- Set IFF codes in the SRS GUI or in the cockpit.
- Change radio channels for package, tower, intraflight, and related comms while continuing to fly and communicate through SRS.
Event-Specific Skills¶
- Some events may require additional technical proficiency that will be described in the event briefing.
- Some DCS missions include special roles such as GCI or Combined Arms that have different requirements. If you are unsure what is expected in one of those slots, ask a roster member attending the event.
